Teaching Language

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Kids_1Ever wander how kids master language skill? As for me, I am grateful for where I was born, where I get to learn Mandarin from my parents; Hokkien from Father’s parents; Cantonese from Mother’s parents; Thai from my maid; Bahasa Melayu & English from school.  Language is more than just academic, learning a language is meaningless without the culture and environment behind it. I sometimes wander how am I going to teach my child to effective multi-lingual; how to give them the exposure to multi-lingual environment?  Perhaps, expose them with Mandarin (which I think is quite difficult), then follow by Hokkien & Cantonese, lastly with English & Malay. Any suggestion?

The Old KE Hall at Sepoy Line at SGH is making way for the Duke’s Medical Hall
early next year, so Singhealth is organising this Homecoming Party tonight
to all Keviians. Most of my batch is busy with their works so only me & Yam went to witness the old hostel since 1957, an memorable home to many doctors who graduate there.  That was the hostel where former Mahathir meet his wife and where ragging & hall song started. I attached some photos for those who didn’t go.
